A month of thanksgiving ~ Day 17
[ Pokeberry Dye Inspiration: from Harvesting Color by Rebecca Burgess ] Harvesting Color explains where to find these plants in the wild (and for those that can be grown in your backyard, how to nurture them) and the best time and way to harvest them; maps show the range of each plant in the United States and Canada. For the dyeing itself, the book describes the simple equipment needed and provides a master dye recipe.
How To: Dye With Natural Elements
More mori style DIY: have a great thrift store find or clearance fabric with uninspiring color? Or maybe your forest adventures have left their mark on your favorite dress? Natural dyes make beautiful color, often with a totally legitimate vintage feel. Red cabbage or blackbeans can be used for blue, onions or turmeric for yellow, wild staghorn sumac or beets for pink/red, wild pokeweed for purple, tea leaves for brown, and so on.
