SIOUX oglala Daniel Black Horn from Pine Ridge Reservation & friend, c.1920-1930. Daniel Black Horn called the shirt he wears his "Many Hands" shirt, it represented all the people with whom he had shaken hands during his travels in Europe with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Shows. This is, of course, in stark contradiction to the more usual interpretation of these designs. They normally indicate the number of enemies killed or touched with the hand.
