Product Details
Pocket Data Day is an engaging activity that can be used multiple times throughout the year to review a variety of math concepts. My students beg for Pocket Data Day! Once the teacher broadcasts to the class that it is Pocket Data Day, students are frozen in whatever clothing they have on. This means that students may not take off or put on any jackets. The teacher then divides the class into two groups of equal students. If one group has fewer students than the other, the teacher joins that group's team. Students from each team alternate coming to the front of the room and counting the amount of pockets they have on their clothing. This process continues until the class has completed recording all the pocket data. The data collected is then used to complete any/all of the pages included in this product. This product includes 4 pages of activities that review bar graphs, tally charts, pictographs, 2-digit addition and subtraction, comparing numbers, even and odd, expanded form, base ten form, number word form, and multiple ways to show money (by converting the pockets into cents). What I love most about this activity is it can be thrown in anytime throughout the year, and is engaging and useful! The kids love how it pops up when they least expect it. This is also a wonderful activity to leave in sub plans! Search Terms: collecting data, sub plans, graphing, recording data
