Nonfiction Main Idea 3rd Grade Reading Toothy®

Toothy Task Kits- an original idea from Angie Olson at Lucky Little Learners, LLC.This pack is part of the 3rd Grade Reading Toothy Bundle. Your students will receive all the practice they need to reinforce the skill of determining the main idea and key details, as well as explaining how the details support the main idea. Students will first read a short passage. Students will then identify the main idea of the passage along with 3 supporting details and record them in a table. Students will then explain how the details they selected support the main idea.Students will need to use the information in the text to identify the main idea and key details, and explain how the details support the main idea. Students will need to use some inferencing to answer questions, as is expected from a third-grade student, allowing for practice with higher-order thinking and comprehension. There are 24 passages included in this set. Each passage is within the third-grade text complexity band. Each passage comes with an open-ended table for students to record the main idea and supporting details. Each passage contains a clip-art image to support English Learners with the tasks and aid in content comprehension. The suggested answers on the back of the stories allow for these activities to be self-paced and self-correcting and/or for the activity to be used in a small-group or whole-class discussion.
