In this work, escher realized 24 woodcuts depicting as many phrases created by his friend a.e. Drijfhout, alias g.j. Hoogewerff, in latin and dutch. Ref. 'leven en werk van m.c. Escher' by bool et al., meulenhoff amsterdam, no.173 this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and
