In 2019, Africa Amini Alama, a local NGO in northern Tanzania, called for a design competition to develop one of their community schools.This became an opportunity to test BARTER's 28-pattern ‘Design Instrument.’ Dar es Salaam-based APC won by successfully incorporating the architectural patterns in correspondence with the environmental and social-cultural values of the area. The "Child-centred" architecture allows children to move freely between learning spaces to work there alone or with others. Children have access to learning materials, the medium of water, kitchens, or gardens and are able to experience and use all parts of the building and interior fittings independently. Simba Vision was named the 2023 ‘Architecture Project of the Year’ by the prestigious Dezeen Awards.
