Martigny- Orsières, Chemin de Fer by Muret Albert / 1910. In 1877, 5 pairs of curved wooden planks were sent from Norway to the ‘Grand St. Bernard’ hospice in Valais. The monks gleefully discovered that they were able to walk and even slide on the snow, at that time using only one ski pole. A poster featuring priests skiing from the Grand Saint-Bernard hospice with the famous "Grand St.Bernard" dogs.
