They provide a home for around 25,000 species of animals, plants and mushrooms🍄, absorb CO2 and thus protect our climate. They clean seepage water, provide almost half of our drinking water and protect us from natural hazards. They are also an extremely popular recreation area and provide wood, an important local raw material.
