Jayme Yannuzzi on Instagram: "know what you’re thinking…

Here she goes again hammering on about podcasts! But I have been reaping the benefits about listening to podcasts with my own little that I don’t want to gate-keep it from you.

The thing is, when we introduce active listening to our Littles at a young age, they build up important skills for the future of their reading and educational journeys.

Podcasts, although simple, provide such an easy and enjoyable way to do that.

Today, I wanted to focus just on our preschoolers. If you think that listening to podcasts with preschoolers is impossible, I’m here to prove that it’s not. It’s all about finding the one that works for your family.

Some of these are tried and true for us and some are new. Some are perfect for a calming quiet tim
Jayme Yannuzzi on Instagram: "This is your sign to start a Friday family movie night

Friday move night has become a family tradition for over 3 years now.

It’s become a favorite part of our week and one that we all look forward to all week honestly.

We have a system where we switch on and off each work for who’s turn is it to pick the movie and we get our 🍕 ordered and snuggle up on the couch.

We started this tradition to quell the daily movie requests and give my little one a specific day each week she could look forward to for movies.

It’s also become a way to connect and unwind as a family. And even though yes it’s with a screen, I think at the end of a long week, screen time can absolutely still be quality family time.

Over the years we have made conscious efforts to find movi

This toy car science and math activity is so fun for little ones - even if they don’t understand exactly it’s a great way to learn numbers! I used different sized cars and monster trucks and a bowl of number erasers. When my son weighed a car he would collect what numbers showed up on the screen. Then we ordered them from lightest to heaviest! A basic kitchen scale works great. You could even experiment with a hypothesis on which will be the heaviest and lightest!

Lovevery on Instagram: "⭐️Poll: What’s your favorite way to help your child learn new words?⭐️

Speech and language pathologist Bridget Hillsberg of @speechsisters says the most effective way to introduce new vocabulary is through play. So, instead of quizzing your little one with questions like “Can you say ___?” or “What’s this?” she suggests this simple strategy:

🗣️ As your child plays, copy what they do and incorporate a target word.
🙃 Make silly sounds and gestures that reinforce its meaning.
🔁 Repeat the target word multiple times in a fun way.

Asking questions can be helpful, too. Just be sure they appeal to your child interests, are simple enough for them to answer, and are few enough to keep the environment fun and engaging. This will encourage your little one to talk

💾 Save this post to come back to later!

Here are some mistakes I see often as a pediatric speech therapist and what I encourage you to do instead to promote speech and language development with toddlers.

❌ Using baby talk instead of parentese. Children learn language through the language that is modeled to them. Parentese is much different than “baby talk”.

❌ Forcing the “right way” to play with toys instead of letting them learn, explore, and problem solve the toy on their own.

❌ Focusing too much on pre-academic skills such as colors, numbers, or letters. Instead of focusing on these skills, focus on teaching and modeling functional language so that they can commu

Hi 👋 I’m Alison, a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist and a mom. Keep reading to learn why I love to teach power words ⬇️

💪 Power words are words that carry a lot of weight when it comes to communication. They give kids the most bang for their buck, so to speak.

🗣 They are often words that help children communicate their wants and needs, reduce frustration, and connect with caregivers in a meaningful way.

💪 These words are going to vary for every child, based on cultural differences, special interests, and family/home circumstances. The words in this video are general examples of power words, but may not be the best words for every family.

🗣 Ask yourself, what 10-15 words would give

Ever wondered what your kiddo should be doing at a certain age, as far as those “walking” skills go? 🧐🚶‍♀️

Again, these are RANGES and just based on my personal & clinical knowledge base.

There are TONS of resources out there telling you when kids should be achieving certain skills, but just wanted to give you my two cents 💰💰 so that you had a quick “cheat sheet” to reference.

Meant to educate, not to decrease your confidence as a mama or dada! 🤗 we need to recognize that every kiddo may not follow this exactly and that can be totally OK!! 🤍

Here’s a few great tips on how to increase leg strength past 6 months as your baby is approaching important milestones such as Crawling, Standing and Walking 👶🏼

As you can see from the various clips; the soles of the feet are important - make sure to stimulate those and always place the whole sole onto the surface when practising 🦶🏻

This is because of the amount of nerve-endings in the sole - it gives a lot of valuable sensory information to the brain 🧠

Try these at home and let us know what you think 🥰"

Remember, this is just a purposeful play activity that you *can* practice to get your little one moving towards next skill! Not trying to rush anything…😉🤍

📣 Most kiddos *will* crawl on their own with opportunities given for floor play and independent exploration of their environment, but there is no harm in supporting them along if they are frustrated and are in the age appropriate range for the skill! 😌

Providing this little cue at their shoulders along with the pull of their bodies to shift forward over their hands, some littles (if they are ready!) will tuck their knees up underneath them! 💪🏼😅

💡TODDLER TIP: Next time your toddler hits and you set the limit, "I won't let you hit me", follow through on your words by moving away from your child so they can’t reach you or gently hold their hand so they can’t make contact with you. I invite you to stay connected while holding your boundary. You can hold the limit without relating to your child as "bad". Remember, these are the moments your toddler needs your support!

Remember, toddlers are experimenting and exploring with limits and reactions. However, behavior can become reinforced by OUR reaction or just become a preferred method of communication. That's why finding your calm and sha
Janice Chou on Instagram: "We’ve all had those days when we’re so exhausted that we can’t handle one more argument with our child. 😖However, when we routinely give in to their crying, whining, and negotiating, we inadvertently teach them that crying and pleading are effective ways to get what they want. This ultimately makes it harder for them to respect boundaries as they grow older—and makes our parenting job that much more difficult.

So, as draining as it can be, it’s important to remain firm in our boundaries and follow through on the limits we set. While our child may scream, cry, whine, or plead in response to our boundaries, when we remain firm in our limits, we teach them the importance of consistency and help them learn to accept and respect boundaries
