O museu a céu aberto de Naoshima nasceu do sonho do empresário e colecionador japonês Soichiro Fukutake que teve a ideia de oferecer um lugar onde arquitetura e arte se integrassem harmoniosamente à natureza e à cultura das ilhas do Mar de Seto, no Japão. O projeto é do famoso arquiteto japonês Tadao Ando e abriga obras de 210 artistas de 23 países.
