Cass Scenic Railroad to ride the trains up the mountain. Number 6 is the last and largest Shay locomotive built. It was built for Western Maryland coal service. Shay #6 was shipped to Elkins, West Virginia May 14, 1945 for use on the 9% grade on the Chaffe branch. . A Baldwin DS-4-4-1000 and caboose are at Hillen Street in Baltimore, Maryland in this 1960's scene. WM 133 was built in December 1946 and retired/scrapped in October 1965. The caboose was part of an order of 55 built in 1940. Photograph taken by the famed railroad photographer Bill Folsom (1940-2008). Photo purchased from his son Robert Folsom and posted here with special permission.
