Kids may be stuck but don’t ask for help because they are embarrassed to or don’t know how to identify what aspects of a task they need help with.
I use these cards all the time in my therapy room- I give students a task analysis and put out all the cards that are elements of the task they may need help with…then we practice as the opportunity arises. This contextualized practice helps them to understand how to identify and request the specific type of help they need. This can be especially important for kids who have become prompt dependent. Lately, my daily tasks have increased a lot. But it doesn’t mean I’m doing more. I’ve started breaking down big tasks into smaller, bite-sized pieces. Each big task comes from the main goal. But when I only finish half of the big task, I feel like I haven’t done anything and moving it to another day makes me think I’m not productive. I know I make a list for everything and I often find myself completing tasks that are low priority because they are easy and I want to avoid the high priority, harder tasks. This worksheet can help identify the tasks on your to do list, prioritize them, and commit to checking them off! Although a to do list never really ends, hopefully you will have a sense of accomplishment and pride each time you check a task off of the priority list.
