Begin with a simple sketch of an owl. The eyes need to be an eye space apart. The beak starts in between the eyes. Next cover the background of the owl with a very light value of color. State testing has started so that means a different schedule than normal, so shorter classes for the next couple of weeks! This may sound fun, but it's not! lol 45 minutes, once a week, is not enough time to begin with, much less 35 minutes! These painted owl faces are quick and easy for the kiddos. This easy painting project focuses on their beautiful peepers and those adorable feathered faces.

In second grade we have been talking a lot about texture. When we were drawing our owls we really looked at the feather patterns and textures. We also added more visual texture to our trees with brown crayon. While creating our collaged backgrounds we used torn paper towels from an earlier project that added another texture element to the project. They came out great and the kids really worked hard on adding details.
