Ray was an established member of the post-World War I Dadaist avant-garde, using photography to explore the poignant banality found within everyday objects. Their student-teacher relationship soon became a romantic collaboration lasting for three years. Miller survived as Ray’s muse for the rest of their lives. This is Miller’s eye (1932).16
