Another EncaustiCamp has come and gone. It was a gigantic effort on the part of many helpful hands but most of all of our leader, Trish Baldwin Seggebruch. Here we are at Daniel Smith's in Seattle at our book signing. The book is Encaustic Revelation and it is a compilation of the classes taught at camp in 2013. Oh it's good to be busy, to have work that you love and a quiet, calm life. Not that every day is but on balance it is so. Out takes from the wax video demos. I'll dribble them in here and there. I love the rhythm of these days; "filming" in the early part of the work day then editing and sending them to the vault. Going to bed each night with a feeling of accomplishment. It suits me. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, with the first group of pilgrims (minus 2 shy ones). We spent 8 nights together eating, painting, plastering, waxing, sketching and enjoying the city. It was a dream realized. We stayed only 1 1/2 blocks from the central jardin in lovely Casa Carmen where we shared breakfasts and lunches each day. Yes, another journal. Made the cover last night with the intention of trying out a new faux encaustic finish and lots of texture. Wrapped cord around the cover, painted it and messed around. Took pictures too so I'll share the process. I'm attaching a piece of raffia woven netting with soft gel medium over a few layers of scumbled acrylic. Adding a block of red to echo the block of red above the cord. Don't have a real reason for choosing the color but note that I usually gravitate to warm…
