Wilhelm Trübner (1851 - 1917) was born in Heidelberg, the son of a goldsmith. Trübner was encouraged to study painting by Anselm Feuerbach, a painter of historical scenes. During the 1870’s Trübner travelled extensively in Europe, to Italy, the Low Countries and to Paris where he saw the works of Manet and the Impressionists. Good old Leon and Levy where would I be without them. There is a Police Officer standing on the traffic island in the middle of the photograph, he is probably from POW. On the left is a hoarding surrounding the building site for what was then known as the New Government Offices and is now The Treasury; work was started in 1899 and completed in 1915 so I may be on the cusp here. Lovely bonnets Ladies.
