This is helpful to get gradients. * Toner: The Toner repels the acrylic paint. So the more toner, typically the better your image transfer will be. * CMYK: Understanding CMYK colors is key for great prints. Using all four—cyan, magenta, yellow, and black—instead of just black can enhance your image transfer, even if you only print a black-and-white photo since it lays more toner. * Double Print: I run the photo through the laser printer 2x to lay down more toner on the paper. My new 16x20” gelli plate by @gelliarts—I did my first image transfer with it. It is a moment I’ve been dreaming about, mixed with a dash of nervous excitement. I have lots of different sizes of the Gelli plates but I was nervous that this would not work. Using my own photos to create this HUGE image transfer. Tomorrow I will post part 2 with the reverse image painting. Let’s see if I fail!!! YIKES

✨High quality edited laser printed photo 📸- (I took my photo in Forcella, Napoli )
✨Gel Medium to keep the acrylic from pooling
✨Drying times matter. Leave it until it is full dry. This one was left over night because of the number of layers.

Jessica Russo Scherr | Artist on Instagram: "Painting in Reverse Painting on a gel plate for a monotype requires a reversed thinking process, starting with the final layers first. You can’t easily retouch areas, so planning is key. I begin with my palette and use a small brush to add color details that will appear behind the monotype image transfer of my photograph. Then, I fill in the larger spaces and consider the underpainting’s role and how the transfer layer color might affect the gel plate colors. Working on a piece of plexiglass helps me check the process, and more layers mean longer drying times. About This Monotype “Alley of the Crushers” depicts Vico dei Panettieri, a historic street in Naples, Italy.
