As the founder of Comme des Garçons, Rei Kawakubo has been radicalizing fashion since 1969. A blockbuster retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art shows that her capacity for surprise is practically limitless, and backed by a sculptural inventiveness that could make Picasso envious.
